Surprise surprise. The memorial is there, on the aaron ha kodesh, and seems to be exactly the same as on the old photo. There is just nobody who could tell me whether it was always there, or was uncovered and restored during the recent restoration of the Tempel. The Krakow surprise
I had an old photograph from Paul, mailed to Eli Jordan, the widow of Charlie, in 1968: it depicted a memorial to Charles Jordan in Krakow neologue synagogue, the place where the more assimilated and German-speaking Jews used to pray before WWII. The memorial was unique, as it happened to exist in a Communist country, and it clearly stated Charlie was murdered. It also indicated that the relationship between post-war Krakow community and Charlie must have been very special. I always assumed the memorial was destroyed during the anti-Jewish wave of 1968, and never made any special effort to check whether this was true or not.
Surprise surprise. The memorial is there, on the aaron ha kodesh, and seems to be exactly the same as on the old photo. There is just nobody who could tell me whether it was always there, or was uncovered and restored during the recent restoration of the Tempel.
